Activists know that changing the world is only half the battle. Because creating change means first believing that change is possible, whatever the odds, or at least that attempting to change the world is worth doing, regardless of the outcome.

For many, activism also entails the inner activism of navigating the stresses of burnout, existential anxiety, loneliness, political or professional antagonism, and sometimes bullying. In the words of Mariame Kaba, “Hope is a discipline.”

Anxiety and burnout are real, but so is community. The Resilience Project is a youth-led organisation that exists to fight for the people who are fighting for our planet — weaving spaces of courage and peer-support across the global youth climate movement to unlock greater emotional resilience.

In 2025, The Resilience Project decided to create People, Planet, Pages — a family of eight book clubs for young climate changemakers, operating across Europe. People, Planet, Pages was always intended to be more than a book club — what we really wanted was to create spaces where climate-conscious young people can be real with each other — to laugh and cry and think and feel.

Not Too Late, edited by Rebecca Solnit and Thelma Young Lutunatabua, was the obvious choice for our first book. It so brilliantly articulates the case for hope in the context of the climate crisis, and — as an anthology of different voices from across the climate movement — it had the same kind of collaborative vibe we were going for with the book clubs.

It was one of our brilliant book club facilitators, Nel Nicholson, who had the vision for this zine, and who has shaped it into the beautiful collection in your hands. As an artefact, Take This With You is a peek inside the hearts of youth climate activists today — their courage, compassion, fears, and hopes. It is also a celebration of the quiet power of both community and reading for sustaining a movement.

A huge thank you to everyone who has taken part in People, Planet, Pages so far, especially those who submitted content to this zine, and to the artist Jade Johnson for providing additional original artworks. Thanks also to our brilliant partners at Haymarket Books, and to our wonderful book club facilitators — Anji, Eliana, Eva, Jemima, Leann, Lucy, Nel, and Sabiana — for doing such a beautiful job in stewarding this project.
